Chapter 1 - Hello World
GB Our Values are a result of our hard work. Our hopes.
GB It becomes who you are.
GB Even if you don't get exactly what you wanted...
GB Even if what you do with it is… unsavory…
GB It’s not your fault.
GB At least, it shouldn’t be.
There is little available information about Chapter 1, except for a brief summary:
"The competitors leave the opening ceremony in a mixture of emotions.
They arrive at their temporary residence for their duration in The Program and manage to witness themselves on the big screen - although everything is carefully controlled to mitigate the recent controversy.
Later, the current Champion, Grace Nejem, pays everyone a visit, preparing them for their first trial."
Prologue
GR Salutations everyone!
GR You have been waiting long enough have you not? =)
GR Come! Let us all welcome in the 200th season of the Synesthetic Program!
The opening shows a series of audition tapes, featuring people briefly explaining their interest in The Program, why they believe they would be a good fit, and what they intend to accomplish with their victory. Their names and faces are obscured by static. Instead, they can be identified by their color code and speaking mannerisms, as well as the audition numbers located in the corner of the video.
The main scene features a large, elegant ballroom, hosting the grand opening ceremony of The Program's 200th year. The new group of competitors are present, as well as previous years' competitors and Trial Captains. Oojin can only interact with their years' competitors, merely observing and eavesdropping on everyone else. The other competitors are seen in pairs - Bri De Los Santos and Rowan Chaudhary, Yuna Chakrabarti and Tian Zhou, Phoebe Sakuragi and Vincent Labelle, and Patricio and Maura Hunter. They are relatively friendly and sociable, though Oojin may notice that they seem to know something that you don't.
When Oojin is finished interacting with them, Gabrielle will be seen again, now conversing with Mililani Gardner. She mentions that the last competitor you have yet to talk to, Adam Akil, had attended the same school system as you and her, though she doesn't recall remembering much of him. Depending on what you say, you can either meet him alone or with the pair. Afterwards, you, Gabrielle, and Mililani convene once more, noting how cold and distant Adam was in contrast to the more sociable atmosphere. Gabrielle then reassures you with her optimistic perspective followed by Mililani's more pessimistic view.
Here, Oojin reveals that they were not just in the bathroom earlier due to nerves - they were looking for a phone charger due to their device lacking battery since morning. Gabrielle responds with a horrified expression while Mililani simply hands you his phone - on it are text files that were leaked merely a few hours prior. They reveal extensive background documentation of people who have auditioned, including doctor-like notes of their physiology and psychology that could not have been gleaned from an audition video alone. The only file that contains information about an accepted auditioned is one that belongs to Competitor #02 - Oojin Kim.
Oojin then will undergo a strange breakdown that, regardless of dialogue choice, leads to them being supported by Gabrielle and Mililani. A countdown for the official start of The Program begins, leading to the first appearance of Grace Nejem, the host of the new season.
The chapter ends with a return to the beginning audition tapes, now featuring characters who resemble Gabrielle, Mililani, and Oojin. This is the first time we see Oojin speak without a dialogue prompt, presumably due to the auditions occurring before the game had begun. They describe their desire for their life to no longer remain stagnant and note that this audition will be their 'last chance'. The tape begins fast-forwarding and glitching until it becomes unintelligible.
